Jess, the English heroine of "Ciao for now", is working as au pair in a wealthy Milanese family during her gap year after university.
Unfortunately she can't avoid being trapped in the fights between husband and wife and both make her life quite miserable,
as does the nasty Indian housekeeper, but life outside the house encourages her to endure the painful domestic situation.
The author shows us the difficulties of a young girl living in a foreign country and trying to adapt to a new way of life.
Milan and a few trips around Italy provide the background to this lovely novel.
I really recommend it to teenagers and grown ups!

"Ciao for now" tells the adventures of a young au pair girl from England as she discovers life in Italy.
The book is fun and romantic and makes you want to travel to Milan and beyond!
The accounts of the heroine's experiences in Italy are well written and fun with a hint of irony and adventure.
The book captures perfectly the Italian way of Life for young people as one immerges oneself into the everyday life of a twenty something in Milan.
A great novel! I hope they'll make it into a movie!

Anyone who has moved to a new country and experienced living and working in an unfamiliar environment would relate to this - even if you haven't (and you really should) this book will take wrap you in the adventure as if you were right there with Jess.

About the Author
Patrik Sahsltrøm – born in 1975 in Warzawa, Poland, of mixed Swedish-Polish parentage. He has a degree in Comparative Religion from the University of Oslo, and for reasons known only by the gods, decided to stay in Norway instead of taking up offers of postgraduate studies in Amsterdam and Paris. He was a politician for the Norwegian Green Party until he realized that shit is still shit, even if you paint it green, and quit politics in disgust. Patrik is a jack-of-all-trades and definitely a master of none; he has worked as everything from being a bellboy at a hotel to being a clerk in the police. He has even tried himself as a practitioner of the occult, but was thrown out of the club after failing to keep a straight face during one of their rituals. He started writing for real the autumn of 2013, at the behest of colleagues who worried he’d go postal out of boredom if he was stuck in an office for an extended period of his life. Currently, Patrick lives by himself in the Hipster commune of Grünerløkka in Oslo, Norway, with more than enough company from his pet household demons Ambza, Xia and Ted. He is trying to make ends meet by writing, and plans to move somewhere a lot less expensive in the near future.

Witches, werevolves & fresh recruits in power armor.

The story takes place in a near future where magic is real and angels, demons and other supernatural creatures meddle in the affairs of mortal man.

There are few dull parts and the action sequences are well written. Both the main characters and the supporting characters are interesting. Personally I really liked one of the supporting cast, Sgt. Herlovsen, who more than any other characters provided insight into the world where this takes place and the class differences.

I really enjoud the scenes in which soldiers in power armor fight werewolves in the snow and later fight side by side with the same werewolves against a group of hillbilly rebels in the snowy mountains of Norway.

As a first book in a series it sets the scene for bigger events in the future and by the time I finished the book I wanted to keep reading.

Good fantasy book

I like this book. I can feel Patriks sense of humor throughout the book. Exciting story and I want to know what will happen with the characters. Good diversity amongst the characters.
This is actually the first fantasy book I have read in English , and I like it :) usually I prefer Norwegian. Can't wait for more.

Superb!!!

I was blown away by the first book in this series and was delighted to have the opportunity to read this the second instalment.
If you haven’t been fortunate enough to read the first book then I strongly advise you to pick that one up first because this is it continuation and you need to have the detail and information clear in your mind before setting off on this, which I have to say is a roller coaster of a journey.
Everything she tried so hard to keep hidden is discovered as her tribe face a battle to survive. Sapere’s is in limbo so to speak as she and the rest of the villagers are doing everything they can just to stay one step ahead of a future that may contain more peril that they neither need nor desire.
All they want is to keep themselves safe…but safe is a subjective illusion because what they may consider to be their haven, could very well turn out to be anything but.
As Sapere and Venatore take the lead in the hunt for their remaining kinsmen, the rest of the tribe settle into their new location but was the group where they needed to be or had they just settled for the easy option?
With the possibility of tragedy befalling them all their search takes on a sense of not only desperation but determination, they had too much to lose, failure was not an option and they knew it.
The strength that Sapere exhibited was warming, she stood tall, stood her ground and refused to allow her doubters to subjugate her or what she stood for.
Her gift may have singled her out in a way but it didn’t define her, her actions spoke volumes, but you had to be listening to her and what she really was saying, and that was easier said than done for not only some of the Council members but also their sister tribe.
Some were too keen in maintaining what they knew and I thought that, that made her situation more complicated that it really needed to be.
There is more than enough angst and attitude throughout the book, that you will be eager to discover what is coming next and there is plenty to be worried about,I had my nails bitten to the quick at some points
Sapere was and is a glorious character, one that had more than enough attitude to keep my attention, in fact as this is not a genre that I usually read, I would have to say that she was my captivation.
A super book, very well written and wonderfully descriptive.
This author may just have made a convert to the genre and for that I would have to say thank you.

The reader escapes to another world constructed by E L Tenebaum’s imagination.
I enjoyed the first book and was happy to read the second. In this story I joined Sapere’s tribe as they realised they had to move to greater safety than the Wild afforded them. They sense an impending attack by the Pliz and begin the daunting journey to find a safer place. They discover the Great Blue Waters and this is like a miracle, as they have never seen water like this before.
When they leave the Wild, a like-minded village takes her tribe in and hosts them. There is never any talk of assimilation and over time, Sapere discovers cultural differences that shock her. She has always known an egalitarian society rather than one that has layers of hierarchy.
The author uses foreshadowing to great effect. This foreshadowing of a pending disaster aroused my curiosity and made me want to keep reading, like entering a voyage of discovery and I was sharing the journey with all the wonderful character, E L Tenebaum has created.
This is a story about a young girl’s evolution as she accepts her special gifts, breaks with convention and assumes or rather accepts a leadership role in a world dominated by men.
She is thoughtful, courageous and grows in wisdom as she learns how to use her gifts to help those around her confront a pending attack. Her friends become her allies and her enemy’s learn to respect her.
Sapere’s hawkling travels with her and Tenebaum describes the beauty of this bird as it flies to warn Sapere of danger. The hawkling signals a change. It ferociously protects Sapere and she feels safe whenever it is near. In a sense the hawkling’s arrival, although welcomed, also signals a change in Sapere’s circumstances.
The story ducks and dives like Sapere’s hawkling and we follow its fluid movements as the group shift their thinking from underground fortifications to conquering their enemy from the sky.
If you enjoy fantasy then this is a great novel to read. The themes are universal but the setting is purely the writer’s imaginative creation.

Sapere and the surviving villagers of her tribe have been in the Wild for months, and many of them have adjusted to life there. When Sapere and Venatore find the fifth tribe, they have an obligation to warn them of an impending attack by the Pliz. Their sister tribe also has an obligation to offer asylum to the survivors.

But life in the tribe by The Great Waters is vastly different than what Sapere is used to. Her tribe was just beginning to accept her differences—that she was given her family’s gifts, which are only passed down to males—and her place on council. Now she has to prove herself all over again, and she has to do it while her instincts are telling her they are woefully unprepared for an attack by the Pliz.

The Sapphire Legend: Part II is a young adult fantasy about a young woman who has to prove her worth to the rest of her people while discovering her value for herself. Because of the gifts she was born with, Sapere had to fight for her place among her people in part one. Even after all she did to save her tribe, she is once again an outsider who has to gain respect among the new tribe.

The story drew me in immediately, picking up right where part one left off, with Sapere and Venatore discovering the fifth tribe. They needed to develop allies in order to convince the rest of council to journey to the other tribe by The Great Waters, but once they arrived their quest had only begun. While some settled easily into life with the fifth tribe, others, like Sapere, weren’t comfortable with the differences in the way they lived. These differences made it even more difficult for Sapere to be accepted among council.

The author’s description of Sapere’s gifts was exquisitely written, making me feel like I was picking through sounds and feeling the heartbeat of the earth right along with Sapere. I enjoyed watching how she struggled to grow her gifts and teach others, as well as her indecision when she needed to use them with less-than-honorable intentions.

Sapere’s growth was not limited to her own self-worth. Throughout the story, her relationship with her older sister Onyx also grew and changed. Where Sapere once looked up to Onyx, their roles were suddenly reversed and she came to realize she now had Onyx’s admiration. Once Sapere settled her own personal battle with the Pliz’s attack, she was also able to move on and accept Reo’s feelings for her. The romance in this story was secondary to the main character growth but a well-rounded addition.

The entire story contained a general feeling that something was going to go wrong, that something wasn’t right with the new tribe. There was good buildup to the battle, and good timing of Sapere’s recognition of Reo’s love.

I truly enjoyed this book as the conclusion of what began in book one. Ms. Tenenbaum’s talent for drawing a reader in and holding them captive assures great things in her future.

About the Author
Born and raised in Jefferson County, Georgia, I left home for college at eighteen. I headed off to Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia for my freshman year and finished up at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia where I received my Bachelor of Science in History. While in college I became familiar with both the mountains of north Georgia and the lake country of middle Georgia. I worked at a number of restaurants and one golf and country club on Lake Oconee. After college, I moved to the Atlanta area and have worked as paralegal for the last fifteen years. In that same time I have become a wife and mother. Over the years I have had a fabulous time meeting a world of people, hearing their stories and making some of my own. I feel the time has come to share a few of those stories. Now, to tell you a little more about me; some of my friends joke that I am as country as a turnip-seed and that I must have been conceived in a trailer. Well it's true, I was. Some joke that I am so Southern that I was surely in a jug band at one point. That's not true, if I had messed with my mother's jug or washboard, I would have been in big trouble. Those were just for decoration, you know. I know the true meaning of "bless your heart" and just when to use it. I know the difference in the terms "naked" and "nekkid" and not just because Lewis Grizzard defined them for me. I am a Southerner, and pretty proud of it. Didn't feel like a T.S. Dawson novel

Ok. So.... I have read everything from T.S. Dawson and have been absolutely in love with all of her other books. This one however... it just didn't do it for me. In all her other writing I could feel a connection she had with her work. This one just didn't feel like it had her heart in it and it made all the difference. I was a little confused at first because it didn't seem like a follow up in a series. I felt like I was starting an entirely different storyline than where we had left off. I enjoyed the story, but it didn't feel cohesive. Then as I got further into the book, things just felt jumbled. The flow of her writing style that I love so much just wasn't there. To me it felt as if she lost her way a few times and was trying to piece things together for us readers, but it wasn't working for me. It just didn't read as well thought out. It happens. Now with all that said.... I do love the base of this series and I am dying to find out what happens next. I still love T.S Dawson's work and will continue to be a die hard fan. I know some might not agree with me, and that's fine. I truly do mean my words in the most constructive way.

Hoping for More

After reading When I Was Green, the first book of this series, I was so excited to finally get the answers I needed. The beginning of the book had me on pins and needles, feeling every beat Eddie did, wishing I could offer him comfort. After tragedy strikes and he returns to Thomson, Georgia I had a feeling of coming home. Reconnecting with his estranged love, Lucy, was bittersweet yet just the young love story my heart craved. Eddie will do anything to protect Lucy and he does.
I love the organic love the two have, and hope we get more of them in the future. As always Ms. Dawson made me feel as if I was reliving my youth and falling in love for the first time again. I look forward to more from this up and coming author.

Can hardly wait for book #3!

This is book #2 in a series that I could hardly wait to finish. Thankfully, I had it in hand when I finished #1, "When I was Green"!! TS Dawson writes of characters with whom a middle Georgia woman like me can easily relate! Once the book was completed, I felt as though I was personal friends with the characters. Dawson has noble characters who have secrets, trials, secrets, and tribulations (don't we all?). She describes life in the South in such detail that you feel as though you are on the scene with the characters. Book 1 was told from the female's point of view, and book #2 is told from the male's. So happy her books will still be coming!

I loved this book!

I liked this book be cause it had good details to it like: The floor was wet,damp, and cold.
I would want to keep on reading it for a while, like my other books that are long, so I think if you add more chapters to it it would be awesome. I also like how you told how things came out in the end: The house lights where purple because the man accidentally bought the wrong kind of lights. Oh, if you would know me, you working of say that I am the biggest fan of cats! I LOVE THEM!!!!!!

This is very good book for children who like an interesting story. It keeps the reader wondering what will happen next and provides an adequate description of the main characters (the cat, the girl and the mom). It would be a good story to read to a younger child or a good story for an older child who likes to read on her own. With the exception of a few typos and grammatical errors, I liked everything about this book. A good addition to a child's library.

What a great detective mystery with Wendy and Black the cat!

I enjoyed the drama of wondering if Wendy and Black would be able to find Wendy's mom alive and if they would be able to escape this what seemed like a very broken down house alive and well. I think it needs five stars and wish to recommend this for kids who are 7-12,who likes clean reads mysteries and cats,etc. I received this ebook for free and in return, here is my honest review. A Page Turner and a Wild Ride!

A gut wrenching, honest and inspiring true story.

Geri pulls no punches and shares the highs and lows of Christian ministry. I loved her down to earth writing style. I couldn't put the book down!

It was very interesting to learn about her life and all the miracles she and her husband Clifton have seen. And it was heartbreaking to share her low moments: the unexpected death of their firstborn son, church splits, personal betrayals, home fires etc.
Through it all, Geri holds onto her faith- but it's a wild ride!! An inspiring story for sure.

Ps. Love her honesty- sometimes rare in Christian autobiographies.

Geri Coulter's honest and heart-wrenching book should be read by every woman of faith. If you have ever waivered in your faith or lost hope, this book will recharge you. I first met Geri and Clifton in the early '90's, as they traveled to minister to our little spirit-filled church in Kansas. Our lives crossed paths a handful of times over the last twenty years, but they have always been the ones who have "ministered" to me... always positive and hopeful and full of God. This book broke my heart... and at the same time lifted me up. Get it. Read it. Cherish the message of "Your Rose Will Bloom Again"!

Just received my copy of "Your Rose Will Bloom Again" yesterday. This is a must read for anyone who is overwhelmed, or feeling like life is hopeless and things are never going to change. I believe that by reading the things that Geri has been through and how God has been faithful to cause her rose to bloom again and again, even though it had been crushed and bruised many times over, it will inspire others to have hope, and faith that God will cause their rose to bloom again as well. Geri Coulter is a true woman of God, not moved by her circumstances but holding fast to the grace of God, standing on the Word of God in the midst of the storm. What an amazing testimony and gift of hope to those who read it. If you are wondering if this book is for you.....Please buy it you will not be sorry....you will be grateful. I am going to order more copies to share with others. This book is an inspiration.

Who knew??

She had me at "Tyler turned away from me like my cat does after a visit to the vet." I read this book as a favor to my daughter...surprise surprise, I enjoyed the hell out of it! I stopped looking for cliches to roll my eyes over after about 10 pages (I didn't find any) and figured, why not? Just enjoy it. And so I did. Laura Kennedy Bell dragged me kicking and screaming into the world of a teenage girl...what a marvelous trip to an unknown and unknowable place! This book is a boatload of fun and will take you out of the problems of your own life and into a wondrous world where making out in the back seat of a convertible is at the top of the list of fun activities. Wait...oh yeah. It still is. Thank you Laura.

Teenagers Behaving Badly

Laura Kennedy has done it again, this time with teenagers who behave like teenagers, which means trouble. Except Kennedy knows how to plunge them into BIG trouble, the kind of things you remember from your own teenage years, like scheming how to outwit parents and getting caught anyway, and that nasty little girl you still want to punch in the nose. I loved every page of this book.

A decent attempt at a Holmes/Watson book

I'm going to be honest, I was excited when I saw the book, as I love all things Holmes, in all his different actor portrayals and incarnations.

However, Sherlock is not typically so, well, nice. There wasn't the tension between May/Irene and Sherlock that there usually is. Lestrade was such a minor character in this book and Moriarty not nearly as evil and devious. Where was the whodunnit?

That being said, the author wrote well, it read smoothly and I did enjoy it, I was just a bit let down. I wanted to be wowed. I would be willing to read another book by this author.

The Game's Afoot!

The first thing I noticed about this book was the excellent use of the stilted English found in publications from the late nineteenth century. It is also a book that fits well within the bounds of the Holmes canon. The characters include all of the requisite persons... Holmes and Watson, Mrs. Hudson, Lestrade, Irene Adler and one or two of the Baker Street Irregulars, and, of course, Moriarity.

I am a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes... the original tales by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the various tv shows showing either a classic or modern day Holmes, and the newer body of work by authors today. THE MISADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is Victorian in setting and shows a bit of steampunk as a lady might show a bit of lace. There are no airships or fantastical steam contraptions, but there are some very interesting devices strewn about London.

Giles Chanot gives us a new look at the relationship between Holmes and Miss Adler, as well as how that relationship affects Watson. Modern authors have a rich heritage upon which to build, and when a writer makes full use of it, the result is a story that insinuates itself pretty seamlessly into the canon.

Where Conan Doyle always presented Holmes through the eyes of Watson, THE MISADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is totally written from Watson's point of view. In some respects, it gives a quite different view of Watson.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a classic mystery a la Holmes and Watson.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
I have always been a huge fan of all things Sherlock, so when I saw the blurb for this book I knew I had to read it.
The story, told from Watson’s point of view and with a faint steampunk vibe includes all the main characters, Adler, Moriarty and Lestrade.
Now it’s been awhile since I last read the book, and maybe Benedict Cumberbatch has influenced my opinion in this, but the Sherlock in this book is too civil in this book for my liking. He’s nice to everyone and is so enamored with Adler that his case solving abilities suffer which was a bit of a let down for me. The reason the original Sherlock and Adler worked so well as a couple was that Sherlock was anti social in the extreme and Adler a rogue charming enough to tempt him. Plus the whole basis of their relationship was a battle of wit and since that aspect was missing in this book I didn’t enjoy it as much as I could have.
This being said I did like how all the threads of the mystery were tied together and that little twist at the end is just enough to whet the appetite for the next installment should there be one.
On the whole this was a three star read for me, a good read for anyone who likes Sherlock fan fiction with a twist and doesn't mind a departure from the original character sketches.
