An awesome book.

Greta’s family: rising tides and undercurrents is a fictional book about the reality of social and ecological aspects of life that affect all of us in the modern world. The characters in the story are fictional but the author develops them in such a way that they portray the reality of life. The book addresses most realities of social life as well as the ecology. As far as social life is concerned, the book is made up of characters that love/ hate each other or even trust/ distrust each other. For instance, Rachel trusts her friend Rosa and shares her story about the attack by a group of rowdy young men at the farmers’ market. On the other hand ecological realities addressed in the book include climate change. Currently, almost every human being feels the impact of climate change in the way of global warming, melting of snow and so much more.
The book is a great read for anyone willing to explore the realities of life both socially and ecologically. The characters are fully developed and efficiently pass the themes of the story to the reader. The story is full of suspense and this keeps everyone wanting to read more and more until you are shocked to find that you are on the last page.

About the Author
Aoife Marie Sheridan has loved reading from a very young age, starting off with mills and boon's books, given to by her grandmother her love for romances grew, by the age of 14 she had read hundreds of them. 

Aoife had a passion for writing poetry or in her eyes her journal entries. It was something she did throughout her teens and into her twenties. Aoife won first place for two of her poems and had them published at a young age of just nineteen. Realising she needed to get a real job (What writing isn't) she studied accountancy and qualified working in that field for many years, until her passion for reading returned and she found Maria V Snyder. Poison study one of her favourite books has been read and re-read countless times. 

Aoife's first book Eden Forest (Part one of the Saskia Trilogy) came to be after a dream of a man and woman on a black horse jumping through a wall of fire and the idea of Saskia was born. Now with her first novel published and taking first place for Eden Forest with Writers Got Talent 2013, Aoife continues to write tales of fantasy and is currently working on her third book for the Saskia Trilogy amongst other new works. Great Fantasy. I loved it. Can't wait for book 2!!

I will start saying I absolutely loved this book. It was amazing, and was written so well, I felt I was in this world.

Eden Forest is a fun fantasy story that actually takes place on the parallel world of Saskia, which is a repressive kingdom, where descendants of four banished angles live. Mortal twenty one year old SaraJane is the key to the survival of this other world. She is kidnapped and brought to this world where her journey begins.

I will say the concept and the plot are very new to me; it's not like any other fantasy or paranormal books I have read. I was really pulled in right from the start. I really loved watching SaraJane grow, and I really liked Tristin. He is a hottie.

I think the characters were very well developed and likable. I liked how she made friends quick with some of these people, and was saddened by what happens with one of them. She truly cares for them.

I think it's always really interesting when an author will combine magic, action and some romance in a book, and this has all of that.

I really am anxious to get my hands on book 2, as I want to see where it goes from here.
I highly recommend, and give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

AN UNBELIABLE NEW WORLD WITH UNKNOWN DANGERS

I received a signed copy of this book through a giveaway on FaceBook, and the following is my honest opinion for the book.

While the premise of parallel universes is not new, the way the author chooses to use the concept is. In the case of a Eden Forest by Aoife Marie Sheridan the parallel universe is Saskia and SaraJane is the link between it and back home on Earth.

On Earth SaraJane is a typical 21-year old. She has a job and one day after her mother disappears she gets whisked by Tristan to an unknown world where she discovers she is now a real life princess, and is the only one who can save Saskia from its fate.

Growing up on Earth SaraJane had no powers, but soon discovers she has magical ones now, like everyone else.

On Saskia she starts to discover herself through a journey which will take her through the unbelievable world she’s on now, which includes coming face to face with a father she never knew as a child.

The story which the author has written is pure fantasy, and has a romantic element in which SaraJane’s guardian has grabbed the attention of her heart. However, there a dark element present that wants to take this away from her.

The more SaraJane learns about the powers she now possesses, the more she learns it comes with a heavy price, as she’s being continuously tested. And she ultimately must ask herself a question no one wants to have to answer, the question concerning life and death itself, the question which deals with who will die and who will live.

The storyline, which begs the reader to read more and to turn each page to learn more, only could be present due to the skillful writing of Ms. Sheridan.

Eden Forest is the first part of the trilogy the author has concocted of which I’d love reading. But unfortunately, being a Book Reviewer, I don’t have the time or luxury of being able to read the rest of the books in this series. With that said, I’m giving this book 5 STARS.

3 1/2 stars....

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Also, I'd like to say that the copy that I was given was one of the earlier versions, so the grammar and spelling were mostly atrocious. I kept that in mind while reading this book. Otherwise, I probably would have rated this book a lot lower.

Despite all this I did find this book to be a really good YA fantasy read. The characters didn't have quite the development that I would have liked. I didn't really like how Sarajane just somehow accepted that she's a princess. It just didn't seem too realistic to me, however, given the fact she just accepted that she's on literally another world, maybe it wasn't quite that difficult to jump from middle-class girl to princess of another world.

The plot was good, with the right amount of tension and forward momentum, some good romance was stuck in there. With the romance, I did find that there was more realism there, Sarajane just didn't totally forget about the guy she left hanging on Earth.

I believe the biggest disappointment to me was probably the last 3 or 4 sentences of the book. It was just such an abrupt cliff-hanger that it seemed too contrived, too quick. The cliff-hanger wasn't such a suspenseful cliff-hanger that I was left absolutely needing the next in the series.

Love it!

I love this book! It is a personal, gripping story of Northern New Mexico in the late 1800's+, that draws you in and makes you feel like you are a part of the story. I find myself wishing I could step into that time, that life, that part of history! A rich, enthralling tale that immerses you in the love, hardship, and beauty of living in that era and area. It reminds me that we each have such a broad history....that our existence is due solely to the fortitude and perseverance of our ancestors. Feeling grateful.

A wonderful read, I can't say it any better than ...

Absolutely a diamond in the rough. As Rose Spader recounts memories from her childhood, she also remembers stories passed down through generations of native New Mexicans. A wonderful read, I can't say it any better than the tag line - a great story of love, loss and redemption! The reader has a chance to understand the culture of New Mexico through the eyes of a true native!

A Riveting Memoir

I found Overturned Basket to be a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, a revelatory look into the history of a family at once uniquely vibrant and deeply dysfunctional. When sober, Rose’s father was a brilliant and charismatic, but when drunk was neglectful to his family and physically abusive to her mother. Her mother was a free spirit with a “pull yourself –up-by-the-bootstraps” attitude, who pushed herself and family to raise above poverty and hardships. Rose Spader has carved an amazing tale with honesty and love that affirms your faith in the human spirit. It’s funny, sad, quirky, and loving. I was incredibly touched by it.

Hi, I'm Basil Schlegel, and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and The Fabric of Happiness. 
I grew up in Germany and have been working in media and advertising. I lived in many places around the world and eventually found my home in the United States.
Writing has always been my passion and an integral part of my career, but The Fabric of Happiness is my first novel.
Influenced by Eastern philosophy and by personal experience, I wrote this book after I had encountered a series of life-changing events.
In this day and age, we can all feel disconnected and estranged at times, but I believe this book can always pave a way back into life.

I really love it, what a truly beautiful book

Since finishing The Fabric Of Happiness my ego is going bonkers! The power of this book is still affecting me 18 hours after finishing it. Amazing. I usually finish a book, whether it be fiction or non-fiction, and I am immediately searching for the next one. With this book I have no such compulsion. I feel that no other book could have the effect this one has had on me. It blew me away. It is a book I know I’ll read over and over and find a new lesson every time I read it.

Beautifully written. Manuel is a sneaky bugger, but I love his character to death. I really do. Such well-forged characterization in this novel. The ending had me reading in tears, and I rarely if ever get weepy when reading. Very emotionally evocative. Fantastic, powerful writing. Well done, well done, well done. I am so glad to have had the chance to read this book. And it is one that will stay with me for a long time to come.

I finished reading this book last night. I had to stop to wipe away the many tears that flowed down my cheeks and to blow my very snotty nose! I have read many books including spiritual. Some are good, some are great, but I can count on one hand the amount of books that have made me cry. They have been fiction books mostly. But nothing has made me as emotional and awestruck as this book.

 DiSilvio's plot is cunning and ingenious, and his characters, especially the very resourceful Jack Goodwin, won't be easily forgotten. The passages in the story that deal with Veronika's time in Auschwitz are harrowing reminders of the atrocities committed during that war, and they are masterfully related. My Nazi Nemesis: A Dark Thriller is most highly recommended.

What a great read! I really loved this story and the writing. When I started reading “My NAZI NEMESIS” I realized this book would truly live up to the billing of being a dark thriller. This book moves along swiftly thanks to a very strong storyline and has lots of twists and turns to keep the reader highly engaged. The author has an exceptional talent for character development, giving lots of details and back-story, which really brought the characters to life for me.
Rich DiSilvio writes so descriptively about his characters that my stomach turned getting to know the very disgusting and evil character of Bronsilaw. “My NAZI NEMESIS” starts off with Jack Goodwin telling his daughter about her mother, Veronika, then moves to Jack’s wild adventures as an OSS agent during WWII with his new bride. The newlyweds then ran into SS officer, Alois Richter, who begins to wedge himself between Jack and Veronica. You need to read this thrilling story to find out what happens next and the mission that Jack and his daughter embark on, fueled by revenge against Alois Richter.
The author has a wonderful writing style that makes the conversations between the characters in this book feel very authentic, which pulled me right into the storyline. I really felt like I was transported back in time to WWII while reading this story, which is the true sign of a well-crafted work of fiction. Also, the author paints a picture with his words which allowed me to mentally visualize the events that occur in “My NAZI NEMISIS”. This is the first time I’ve read a book by author Rich DiSilvio and I’m truly looking forward to reading more works from this very talented author. I highly recommend “My NAZI NEMISIS”!

‘Some people say I have the gift of gab, but actually, I’m a rather private and reserved man.’

Rich DiSilvio, a man as committed to music, art, philosophy and sociology as informed by the fine arts, takes this period of history with all of the fascinating changes, discoveries, triumphs and failures and by introducing fictional characters within the stage setting of this era makes it far more credible. We see so much better through the eyes of witnesses than through the most sophisticated lenses of modern technology. And in DiSilvio's handling of the parallel or concurrent unraveling of historical events with those of the Goodwin family he provides not only keen insight but also pauses for the inclusion of the arts, so often ignored by other historical novel writers.

While some readers may pause because of the plethora of stories about WW II and the extremes of the Nazis, this reader would hastily add ‘but you haven’t thought about it the way Rich has’. His story is unique in that it relives a period of time and then brings it back in to the future like a ghost story – a very clever and successful choice for creating a fascinating new novel.

The GPS did a poor job of getting me through the twisting streets and dark alleys of Jack Goodwin’s mind, through whom the story is told, but just in the nick-of-time, DiSilvio provides the necessary guidance to make the journey well worth taking.

DiSilvio’s strength lies in linking historical, contextual backgrounds to the fast moving events that face the characters of the story. Such things as the Nazi’s “Final Solution” or the plots to kill Hitler are not presented in a heavy-handed or preachy way. I had enough of that in History 101.

The story follows OSS Agent Jack Goodwin, his wife Veronika, a downed Russian pilot, and Alois Richter, the Waffen SS officer and Goodwin’s nemesis, as they play a deadly cat-and-mouse game of intrigue in war torn Poland and Germany. After the war, now CIA agent Goodwin, entwined in the dark underbelly of Cold War, explains to his fifteen-year-old daughter, Eleanor, that Richter killed her mother, Veronika in a fit of jealous rage and did his best to have Goodwin join her. Driven by revenge to find and kill Richter, the father and daughter set out to hunt him down. But, all doesn’t go according to plan and Eleanor is forced to make a life and death decision.

Eleanor responded to her father, “But how can you ever truly know if your belief system is correct? Truth to one person is a falsehood to another…”

Exciting New Author

Gripping. All three (Blood, Sweat, Tears) are impossible to put down. These books flow with a story line that never becomes convoluted to the point of reader confusion. Each of the main characters are compelling and authentic. I actually found myself involved to the point of " hoping" for certain personal relationship outcomes . It's impossible to read without being immersed in the story - as a participant. My favorite author is Wilbur Smith and I see many parallels between this new author Steven Prowse and the Wilbur Smith novels.

About the Author
Helle Helle published her first book in 1993. Since then, her work has garnered overwhelming critical and popular acclaim. Recently awarded the Golden Laurel literary prize, Helle Helle is the recipient of countless literary accolades, among them the Danish Critics’ Prize, the Danish Academy’s Beatrice Prize, the P.O. Enquist Award and the prestigious Lifetime Award of the Danish Arts Council. Her novels and short stories have been translated into fifteen languages. She lives in Denmark.

Martin Aitken is the acclaimed translator of numerous novels from Danish, including works by Peter Høeg, Jussi Adler-Olsen and Pia Juul, and his translations of short stories and poetry have appeared in many literary journals and magazines. In 2012 he was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Nadia Christensen Translation Prize.

Wonderful

I've been waiting for a long time to get Helle Helle in English, and this novel does not disappoint. The prose is spare, elliptical and often seemingly random or list-like, but that feels absolutely appropriate for our narrator. What I love most is the way the narrator's perceptions, her world, enter her thoughts and prose unfiltered. So as she navigates Denmark's landscapes, train stations and department stores, a bird call or lost picnic basket make random appearances and are given the same weight as a funeral or break-up.

I recommend in particular if you are a fan of Sheila Heti's How Should A Person Be?, Lydia Davis's The End of the Story, or Jenny Offill's Dept. of Speculation.

One last note: the translation is heavy on British colloquialisms, which inevitably makes the book feel somewhat more British than Danish.

Lost in Translation?

At the start, the deceptive simplicity of her novel slowly ensnares the reader into Helle's precious little world. I almost fell into comparing her with Hemingway, except that Hemingway compresses rupturing emotions in the spaces between words, whereas Helle's sentences are mood pieces, the nearest one gets to a Nordic haiku. But it only gets us so far.
Eventually, Helle's writing style, in refusing to succumb to any weighted passage, stretching instead the reader's patience with book-long buried allusions, descends to vapidity.
Perhaps it is a matter of taste. Perhaps my tropical background instinctively prefers branches groaning with plump fruits of juicy sentences despite my pretensions of liking the bare Bergmanian boughs. One must take any story on its own terms. But in all honesty, one never achieves this: each reader interacts with the pages uniquely. Hence, to me, This Should be Written in the Present Tense launches solidly, with me enraptured by its shadowy winter writing, only to leave me too long in the cold.

A dollar very well spent

Wonderful; well worth a buck.

Pseudo science at its best -- a sense of humor, mind stretching, a base of reality, wonderfully written.

The "case studies" are fascinating, but the Glossary is fantastic; don't miss it. To whet your appetite:

-- amphibious -- adj. -- equally uncomfortable on land or in water.

-- dorsal -- adj. -- pertaining to the back side of the body; rear facing. "Males of the species are entranced by the dorsal features of proximate females."

I would love to go on ... but you will find great enjoyment for only a dollar here.

Unexpectedly witty and charming

This short themed collection is written in a scientific journal (-ish) format, and it takes that conceit exactly far enough. Any longer and it would risk growing stale. I got my $1 worth from the Hu-manatee story alone. Also, don't skip over the glossary--it is one of the best parts.

Note that Amazon automatically categorized this in the "90 minute read" section, but it is actually a faster read than that.

So this is my story, told the way I want to tell it, half written in a psychotic state, half while resisting the urge to return there.

Ryall extends a raw, personal, uncensored invitation into the bizarre depths of his manic reality. I found it surprisingly both delightful and disturbing. You'll delight in the storytelling while consistently having to remind yourself, this is NOT fiction, and therin lies the disturbance. Ryall uses vivid detail and multiple facets of experience to fully envelop the reader and allow us to not only have a better understanding of his personal tragedy but a wider comprehension of mental illness and how it may present itself (with paranoia, delusional behavior and what can only be described as excessive OCD). I found it moving and fascinating. Accept the invitation that "sanity is subjective" and "if we're all mad, then we're not really mad are we?"

The preacher will have some competition though, in the form of an aspiring environmental activist and scientific commune leader, named Ben Loomis, who brings his own vision of reform—along with an odd assortment of wannabe hippies—to this small eastern Kentucky hamlet. What awaits this motley assemblage of characters in INTERCESSION! is an exploration of what it means to have hope and faith in a place that appears to be broken beyond repair.

A journey into the heart of Appalachia

Flinchum is a master of capturing the idiosyncrasies that go undetected by most of us. This book is full of quirky, but brilliant characters set against a backdrop of a laregly forgotten Appalachian culture. In a mad scramble for dominion, several fringe visionaries war over their right to become king of the mountain. Interesting read.

A New Scifi Favorite

The whole time I was reading this book I couldn't help but think that I had stumbled upon what could be the next "big thing" in Science Fiction literature. The last time I felt this way about a title was when I read the Post-Human trilogy for the first time three years ago. I believe this book has the potential to reach this level of success as well. I was actually reading this book and Armada (by Ernest Cline) at the same time but ended up stopping Armada so that I could focus on finishing this book first.
My only two complaints are minor and could be easily fixed if the author decided to do so. First, when I found out about this book I did a search for it on Amazon but a search for "MC" yielded only results for various "erotic" fiction titles. I believe the title "Mind Capture" would be both a more recognizable and easier to search title for this book. "MC" also does not show to the casual onlooker that this is a science fiction story whereas as "Mind Capture" is a much more intriguing title.
Secondly, there was one annoying formatting issue with the kindle version of this book. It seemed that at the beginning of each chapter there would be an awkward space after the first page of text.
Now to my list of praises for this title. I loved that each chapter was not simply named "Chapter 1" or "Chapter 2" and instead each started with a percentage that grew as the book progressed until it reached the epilogue named "Download Complete." I thought this was extremely creative and made the title stand out from the hoards of other science fiction novels available. I also very much appreciated how thought out and well-explained the "Mind Capture" technology was in this book. It made me actually believe that Cyberneurology could be a practiced field of medicine. I really enjoyed the slow build up to what was a quite explosive end, and I thought that the epilogue made the story feel complete in a very satisfying way.
Dr. Langas, Max, and the Professor were all wonderful protagonists and were excellently fleshed out. I felt like they were real doctors that I had the privilege of getting to know throughout this book. I also thought that Marianne was an extremely interesting character and was well written as well.
I also found it quite humorous that the supporting character described to be annoyingly talkative was named "Mr. King" seemingly named after the author (or perhaps a relative?). All in all, I thought that each character in the story seemed very authentic and real. The book was well fleshed out and sucked me into its world completely. It is well-deserving of the five stars I am giving it.
