An adventurous story that took me back . . .

I was pleasantly pulled along through this book, which I received as a free ARC. The Kayndo series reminds me of my childhood and Joseph A. Altsheler's The Young Trailers series, a frontiersman/forester/survivor kind of story.
The plot was predictable in some places (I think any book has to have places/scenes we recognize) and had twists in others. When Stevee, an Adrift slave taken into Wolf Mountain Pack, notices that his friend Dayvee, Kayndo (animal speaker) of all the post-apocalyptic tribes, looks more like his Uncle Codee than his father, Leeto, Alpha of Wolf Mountain Pack, I thought a change was coming. But it was so well done I wasn't sure until later.
Family and honesty play important roles in this third and last book in the series. Stevee discovers the brothers and sisters he lost early in his life, and Dayvee and others face challenges in their own families within their greater family of Wolf Mountain Pack when war with the people across the sea, which fight with the deadly weapons and ideas of the Ancients, tests them all. With artful weapons' skills, forgiveness, strength, and perseverance, Stevee follows in his father's footsteps and the Kayndo's, which leads him farther than he ever dreamed in the fight between cultures and continents.
The end ties some plot threads and leaves others open for future books if the author wishes. I loved the characters so much, I was a little disappointed there wasn't more detail in the ending scenes. But the story stays with me, and that means it's a good one.
If you have a youngster who loves the outdoors, hiking, tracking, animals, telepathy, or adventure, they will like Kayndo, Ring of Defense.

Unexpected but satisfying ending!

Ring of Defense was a fantastic ending to a great series. Picking up where book 2 left off, we follow the Kayndo as he struggles to battle invaders on all fronts. Things get complicated, as they always do. Dayvee questions his beliefs and his gift.
As the end drew near, I was very surprised (in a good way!) to see where the story went, and how it was resolved. Two thumbs up!
