Can I have some more please???

Where to start.... I think I can pretty much sum up my experience with this book by saying that I read it in its entirely in a day. By this, I do not mean that it is a fast, easy read (though it's not Faulkner - thank god) but rather, I couldn't put it down.
To be fair, I do think that Haven was a better, in some ways more thorough book. BUT, and this is a big but, I still loved Dragoon. It was an excellent sequel and I really am excited for the next book. If Dragoon had come first, maybe I wouldn't feel as strongly but because it was GOOD and followed something GREAT, I really can't complain.
Also, I will proudly admit to being on A.R. Ivanovich's mailing list to I knew as soon as Dragoon came out AND I GOT IT RIGHT AWAY! It's pretty cool how the cover art ties into the book too.
But let's break it down simply:
ROMANCE: as with Haven, this wasn't by any means the main focus of the book. (Though Rune and Kat are both pivotal characters and their relationship and trust is key to the plot) In Haven there is also only one significant kissing scene (spoiler: Rune and Kat) and that's just about it. I really don't see this as a problem. I think that it makes the story more interesting because it's all about how to love and feel for someone without pawing at them. I usually think it's kinda nice when there's a little something spicy but here I really didn't mind. There is a lot of tension and at some points you want to shake them both but hey, they are young and dumb.
ADVENTURE: There's plenty of that. From Kat's misadventure in Haven that ends up with her packing up and heading back into Rune's tragic world to her friends following her across and getting sucked into a world-wind adventure that takes them, and the beautiful but crappy Dylan, across the world and right into the Prince's keep. (sorry for the run-on sentence). We meet the gorgeous but sassy Carmine who pilots the ship that spirits Kat around. We also finally get a taste of what the Prince's are like and just how deep the rabbit hole goes. There is an intense battle and it does get pretty sad but in the end, things fall into place (in a more or less good way). I would say that Ivanovich definitely succeeded at the adventure aspect.
STEAMPUNK-NESS: We've got corsets, pistols, flying ships, odd/evil mechanical contraptions, spyglasses and steam engines.... need I say more?
So in short, I loved it and I was left wanting for more. I don't know if I can make it another year....

Amazing!

Now, let me start this review off by saying that I've never written a book review before in my life... That should first of all tell you how much I love this book and want everyone to read it! (And also, maybe, the more reviews, the faster the next book will come out........*hopeful look*)
Haven was a wonderful book! I read it last year and absolutely loved it, so I was excited when I found out there was a sequel in the works! (I actually emailed the author and begged for one *cough*) I signed up POST HASTE for the mailing list so I knew when the next book was coming and started my countdown! I wasn't disappointed! Dragoon picks up a year after the end of Haven and while we're given bits and pieces of what Kat's life has been like, it's obvious she's not happy. The beginning can be a bit confusing, since you pick up right after something has happened, but it works itself out and soon the adventure begins!
I was glad to see some of the old characters back in this book (Dylan, Ruby, RUNE *swoon*... heh, that rhymes...) and the adventures they go on are certainly exciting! I don't want to say too much and give anything away, but I will say that you get to see more of the Outside world and learn more about the Princes and the war they are fighting.
And, of course, the reunion between Kat and Rune the Dragoon. *double swoon*
Honestly, this is a can't-put-down book, and you won't be sorry AT ALL that you bought it! I work two jobs and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning until my eyes burned and watered and then woke up early before work to read, snuck in passages at my break time and in general was lost in thought thinking about Dragoon when I had to do anything other than read. It's that good!!! :D
I hope the next book comes out soon....... I want to see what Prince Varion is like, what's going to happen to Breakwater and Haven, and what the heck is going on with the Monarch.
Long story short, READ THIS BOOK!
PS: Don't buy any tarts from Rocco Thatcher; he's nothing but a swindler. ;)

Breathtaking !

Dragoon was an amazing second book to the War of the Princes series! I am late getting this review up but I purchased the book within the hour it was released and had it finished after a few hours of intense reading. A.R Ivanovich is an amazingly talented writer, she captures the reader right from the early beginning. I am eagerly awaiting the third book and am glad to know that we will not have to wait as long for it like we had to wait for Dragoon. Enthralling read!
