This is a Young Adult science fiction mystery thriller. If you like mysteries which are held in enclosed, almost claustrophobic spaces,mysteries, or page-turners, you should enjoy this book.

‘Who the heck are you? Oh my gosh is this a serial killer?’

Nicole Stark makes an impressive debut with her young adult novel AFTER IMPACT. Her writing style is solid, her imagination is rich, and she manages to enter that realm of post apocalyptic existence with enough credibility and maintenance of spiritualism that place her book on a higher shelf than those books dealing with a subject that seems all too close in our future. We are enduring wars with ISIS who apparently see the joining of all world countries in a final battle Syria which will introduce the apocalypse.
When an author has the courage to open a book with the following paragraph we know the message to follow will offer some sort of succor of promise: ‘Year 2170 A loud siren woke Avalon up. What’s wrong? Avalon shivered and convulsed as a mysterious liquid flowed past her arms and legs. Cold air assaulted her nostrils. She was lying down on an icy metallic surface, her arms positioned on either side of her body. Am I dead? Is this some sort of out of body experience? Avalon struggled to open her mouth and scream but something was stuck in her throat, preventing her.’ Cryosleep is introduced, as is the story line that is to come.
Or as Nicole summons it, ‘Avalon Adams wakes up 100 years in the future in a new habitat with few memories and lots of questions. Well considered, well developed, this is a strong opening for a debut novel. And it is a bit refreshing to see the words ‘gosh’ and ‘heck’ used again instead of the current obsession with profanity. Nicole deserves watching. Grady Harp, March 16

Pretty Great Even With Flaws!

I have to say, I'm quite impressed. Never reading anything by Nicole Stark before, I wasn't sure what I was in for. This book is overall pretty good. Definitely one that I would say was a page turner. The story itself is full of different plot twists and is one thrilling adventure. This is one of those books that you can easily lose yourself in while snuggled in your favorite pjs drinking a spot of tea.
Overall, yes there are signs showing that this is a beginning creation by this author but it is filled with quite a bit of imagination and creativity, something that a good majority of the books out there are lacking. These little issues or hiccups are completely forgivable and easy to ignore because the story is really great.

~~'Be Careful Who You Trust'~~

Avalon Adams awakens from cryosleep in Humanity's One Plan for Escape (HOPE) habitat. Confusion assaults her senses as she tries to regain her bearings in such a strange place. With the assistance of Ilium, a physician, she quickly gets going in the right direction. One thing really bothers her, however, and that is a message from her father that tells her to 'be careful who you trust'.
This habitat was designed to hold 5000 inhabitants. An extinction asteroid was inbound and the Earth would cease to be habitable for over a century. Strange occurrences become the focus of Avalon in short order.
The inhabitants of HOPE are divided according to occupation and all 'benefits' are built around that premise. There is a President and a 6 member Council to help govern them.
A most interesting read which also has an ending which one will never see coming. And, confinement aboard this HOPE habitat does not stop romance from budding, either!!
Highly recommended.
