Cecelia - Cathy is a superb story teller. Her journey is inspiring indeed. To loose a parent in expected ways would leave anyone traumatized but the manner in which she lost her parent was enough to brutalize any soul. Through it all she grew and found the love she needed. An excellent read.

From the Author
I share my story for the sole purpose of helping others to survive any similar circumstance or situation. My desire is that my story will bring you hope to never give up, because the darkness will pass. This is a story of surviving loss in general and, specifically, my family's mental illness, divorce, domestic violence, drug addiction, alcoholism, murder/suicide, the unexpected death of loved ones, and more. It is my sincerest desire that when you finish reading it you will feel hopeful and comforted in the knowledge that you too can survive any trauma that has led you down a dark path or just led you to read this book. I have come to believe that my purpose in life is to testify to the world that we can find happiness and forgiveness even in the face of evil, destruction and despair.

Couldn't Put it Down!

Honestly, I had to read this in one 5-hour sitting, the story was so mesmerizing I simply could not put it down until it was done. My sister bought the book at the same time, and she called me the next morning to say she did a marathon read, too! We then had a great time discussing the book and how moving it was. Cathy Lynn Massengale has definitely gone through some serious "disfunction junction", and she tells her story in a straight-forward, non-victimy way that recognizes her part in much of the unfoldings of her adult life as she tried to make choices as best as she could with the tools she had at the time. Anyone who is struggling with co-dependency, alcoholism, drug abuse, troubled teens, troubled teens who turn into troubled adults, mental illness, or the tragic death of a loved one will see a piece of themselves in her story. And find the start of healing, as Cathy does once she reaches out for help from a trusted therapist, the Twelve Steps, music and an uplifting spiritual community that took her into their fold, no questions asked. I would love to see Cathy write a follow-up book in a few years, as she continues to heal from the traumas, bravely looks at it all even deeper (the 12-step programs ACA and CODA are excellent forums for working through the past in a safe environment) and further expands her spiritual growth. I look forward to reading all about the next chapter in her life!

Couldn't put it down!

Cathy bares all in this awesome memoir about her life. It's inspiring, moving, and motivational. I sat down and unexpectedly read it straight through in one sitting, keeping me up way past my bedtime!! Knowing Cathy personally and seeing the Joy she radiates whenever I see her, it's hard to believe all she's been through. I'm glad she hasn't gotten lost in a victim mentality, and has chosen to share her story to help others know they can overcome anything and everything that comes their way. I highly recommend it for anyone going through a rough time in Life. You can get through it and find your voice to sing again just like Cathy did!!
