Exquisitely - written novella.

This book is exquisitely well-written -- smart, funny and lyrically sad. It is a novella, and is a perfect size for the story, but you will wish it lasted longer. The characters are perfect in their imperfections, flawed and likeable, and they will stay with you for days after you finish reading. I finished the book in one day -- tried to swallow it whole. I'm sure it's worth a second read, because there is depth and beauty (along with some very human stupidity and vulgarity) here. Friendships never lack complexity, and these reunited friends are no exception.

Characters You'll Miss When You Finish It!

You will be surprised how the story, and even more so, the characters in this novella grab you. A good read, to me is when, after finishing the book I miss the characters as if they were real people from whom I have now been disconnected. You'll feel like you just spent a week in Maine in the middle of winter with people you know. I highly recommend this, you won't be disappointed.

I read this story about a week with ago and it stayed with me. The characters are thoughtful and the prose poetic. The whole feel is of winter, and yet still hopeful. Left me wanting more. A good read.

Not your average teen novle

I was pleasantly surprised by this novle. My typical image of a teen romance was changed by R.T Riley's ability to creatively introduce teen romance to the real world. Our main character does not have a "normal" life. When she is brought to a new school she ends up facing a vicious rumor that she has become a vampire as she struggles through her daily life she stumbles upon the solution to her problems. I recommend this book a thousand times over it is definitely a must read.

The Grapevine Vampire is the best book I've read in months. The ending was so unpredictable! I love being surprised by an ending, and this was definitely a surprise. This book deals with a lot. Family problems, drug and alcohol abuse, gossip, and the battle field of high school relationships. I was brought to tears on multiple occasions, only to be brought back up with a laugh out loud moment. Holly's wit and honesty is refreshing and utterly entertaining. I was left wanting more by the end of the story. Bravo! R.T Riley is fast becoming my favorite author.

Shockingly useful and practical real-world advice

Hacked is one of those books that will t-bone you when you read it. By that, I mean it will catch you off-guard, right in the side of your noggin while you were distracted by some other some such.

See, in the interest of full disclosure, I ran through the book on one of Mr. Bastie's final edits. I didn't do much, because frankly, the book was already well-edited, well-formatted, and wonderfully written. I spent a lot of my time just ~reading~ the book. I made notes, sure, and some suggestions, but for the most part, I simply sat back and enjoyed the fact that the book is chock full of useful, practical information, without all the fluff.

Bastie leaves out the long lectures you might find in other books. He gets to the point, and isn't that the point? I flew through the book and kept thinking: I want my kids to read this book.

Even though I don't have college athletes, I have an ambitious son, who as a freshman is showing signs of becoming a sought-after percussionist. My daughter, a sophomore, is already selling her artwork at school. My toddler throws random objects and picks his nose with both hands, so maybe there's hope for him, but none of these are "athletes." Even so, the process outlined in Hacked is the same for anyone seeking to become successful -- work hard, be consistent, persist and maintain a realistic scope of your achievements.

Over and over I nodded my head. Over and over I wished I had read this book as a high-schooler. It simply took every good piece of advice I ever received and lodged it within a series of well-written and tightly crafted pages.

Forget the title. Forget the fact that this is aimed at college athletes, or even college-aged kids at all. This book will help anyone looking to succeed in anything they hope to accomplish. It is for all ages and disciplines, and I hope it will help many more readers to become more focused individuals.

I've been on the other side of wasted time, money

After having the opportunity to read the advanced copy of "College Recruiting Hacked," I realized how much I needed this book when I was going through my recruiting process. This book gives real-world advice, in a manner that is easy to understand, on how to wrangle in the recruiting process and make each step productive. I no longer feel completely in the dark about trying to find the right fit for my son. From definitions of words commonly used among coaches to the different phases of recruiting, this book gave me the tools to handle this process in an organized, constructive manner. This is a must read for every high school athlete and their parents.

Fun time travel romp for the YA audience

I enjoyed reading this book, I actually stayed up until 3 AM to finish it. The story line is pretty original, but parts of it reminded me of a Nancy Drew mystery. Both this book and the series have great potential and if an editor gets ahold of it, I think it could be bestseller material.

Intellectually witty and candid

Conrad (A.K.A. CJ) is about to graduate high school. For his final year, he thought he’d mimic the antics of Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club by finally getting revenge on a hated Spanish teacher. Very well done, indeed! Never one to follow the crowd, CJ always opted to map his own way, do whatever he felt like. So, obviously, he was never into any of the important stuff like voting because “politics was like organized sports to me—to quote Simon and Garfunkel: every way you look at it you lose.” (18) But, alas, high school doesn’t last forever and soon he will embark into adulthood with one thing in mind: save his money and move out of his parents’ house. Easier said than done, right? Especially when you have to start off in a fast-food and retail chain in a lowly state like Minnesota.

“Working never struck me as something that I would be very good at: I didn’t take authority seriously, I didn’t kiss up to people who got paid to talk down to others, and most importantly, I felt like I was mentally overqualified for most jobs available to someone within my age demographic.” (5)

“At 18, I couldn’t say my limited life experience had been incredibly challenging up until this point, but I managed to skate by on what I figured most people did in these situations—by bull#@!ting.” (21) Ah, yes, the interview, where you get to answer half-baked questions like “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” and “What are your greatest weaknesses?” But, hey, we need to get paid, right?

“Remember, Conrad: THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!” (21) Eeek. And, of course, you’re going to get that customer fighting to the death over the “wrong” change or a stupid return.

“Is this what it was all about? I thought. Will the next fifty years of my life consist of being tortured by some a-hole with an inferiority complex while pulling down minimum wage? A fifteen percent lunch discount? Death row prisoners have it better!” (22) Yep!

Intellectually witty and candid, The Customer is Always Wrong is a delectably humorous and bungling account of working the stale salt mines of greedy Corporate America. I loved Conrad’s snarky and sarcastic attitude. He learns that working a job is a deadpan skewer between the eyes. It’s a cold, cruel jungle out there in the real world. And he narrates it all in this well-versed, satire comedy!

The novel is strung together like a purposeful song

The Customer is Always Wrong
As I began reading I anticipated stopping at 50 pages to decide whether or not I was going to review, but I couldn’t put the book down. I finished it before the sun came up. From the protagonist, I sensed an innocence and an inner strength. I was taken back to an undergrad literature course where analysis of literature and specifically the protagonist was prevalent. Who was it you ask? Holden Caulfield stood out in my mind-The Catcher in the Rye. It was an effortless task to turn the pages to the finale. Nothing felt out of place in this story. The novel is strung together like a purposeful song. It was reminiscent of a time with less technology and the adolescence angst of post high school uncertainty and a rite of passage of a young man. Furthermore, you champion the unsung hero, the protagonist, as he stumbles through life and at times is dealt an unfair hand. You want him to overcome the obstacles to fulfill his destiny. You want him to succeed and find himself. At any rate, the novel will hit the literary spot with many readers. The story is comical and pure. It’s usual because it happens, and it is unique because it is difficult to write it just so. This is an author to watch! –M.Espinola

A sarcastic, witty, and intelligent read

I really was not sure what I was getting myself into when I agreed to review this book. I suppose I was expecting something like the movie "Clerks," but discovered that the book was reminiscent of my days as a young adult working in the customer service industry. While I was not nearly as expressive as C.J. is, I completely understood many of his reactions and had contemplated taking similar actions against managers and customers when I was younger.

While I found myself laughing at some of C.J.'s exploits, I empathized with his situation; wanting to leave home, hoping that another employer will be better than the previous one, searching for a less mind-numbing position, working his butt off so that he can get into a better situation overall. When I first started reading the book, I did not think that I would like C.J.; however, the more I read, the more I wanted the kid to catch a break.

If you have worked in customer service and enjoy dark humor, The Customer is Always Wrong is a great read that will have you laughing at times while groaning over C.J.'s mistakes.

A Not So Routine Song and Dance

Ms. Kositsky is to be commended for writing such a thought-provoking book... Is it better to live an undignified life and think things will change for the better? Or should one just ignore that things have gone seriously awry and forgo any attempt to make the best out of a bad situation? Would you, the reader, have given up? Or would you readjust your own little world to not care what others think about you in order to survive in an unstable, seemingly endlessly changing world not knowing what tomorrow may bring?

Ms. Kositsky has placed upon us a heavy burden... Do we judge others for their actions during unreasonable situations? Or do we alter our thinking and givingly accept that in times of unreasonableness we should offer encouragement rather than contempt? We should be so encouraged ourselves to look past the person and see with her own eyes.

I'm very pleased Ms. Kositsky has taken us through one young woman's experience within her own little world... a world I think few readers would truly understand without having experienced it themselves. I think most readers would understand the growing pains this one woman endured in order to survive. I think any reader would agree that *With Fearful Bravery* is an apt title for such a young woman's journey into a world of Song and Dance, where the former becomes an inspiration, the latter, a necessity, when such routine commands one's own little stage unrehearsed. *With Fearful Bravery* is an apt title should any reader be so encouraged to look past this reviewer and see with her own eyes the scenes of Ms. Kositsky's mind.
