A hard book to read at times, but it is a fabulous read, which I am sure you will love.

The story revolves around Kim, a young girl who’s mother was killed when she was little, and her father is in prison. Kim lives with her mum’s sister and brother in law, and other close family members in their bed and breakfast in Kansas.

As Kim ages, she starts to remembers more and more about the event that took place at the time of her mother’s death, but decides that it is best to keeps her memories to herself, ultimately causing her to become a difficult person at times as she starts acting out, stealing or appearing withdrawn from society.

The one person who is there for her throughout is her aunt, but even she struggles to get close to her and form a bond.

Essentially this is a book about family dynamics, and how the family can learn to survive and show resilience when life keeps knocking them down.

The book covers many subjects including death, grief, trauma and domestic violence. As you would expect with subjects like these emotions are high throughout, they may even bring a tear to your eye. They are all handled with sensitivity and care.

With there being many characters in the story, at first I struggled with remembering who was who. This however did not distract me from the enjoyment of, or following the story.

I found it an easy book to read, despite dealing with some difficult life issues and emotions. In fact I liked the book so much that I took my time to read it, finding myself naturally not wanting to rush it, and seeking every little bit of detail I could get from it. Even when I turned that final page I wanted more.

The book deals with some sensitive issues in a light way, but still enough to get one thinking about the life issues facing the family.

A hard book to read at times, but it is a fabulous read, which I am sure you will love.

Great story!

I loved this book. The story of a child’s growing into young adulthood under the shadow of a crime is told from multiple perspectives, so that you get to know the family gradually and surprisingly deeply. The tale is one of early tragedy, with a focus on the growth and resilience that follows an early loss. I haven’t read Sommer’s other books, but was drawn into this story by the fast-paced, conversational style of the book. I found myself reading into the night—couldn’t put it down!

Tasteful, humorous reminder of tending our gardens

I loved the flow of writing the author portrayed. One can surely picture one's own garden during and throughout the story. A quick read and yet left me much thought to bring fertilizer to my own garden. I recommend this book to as young as 5th graders (even younger bright readers) up to the young age of 99+. I chose to rate 5 stars for it is full of richness and loving illustrations.

About the Author
Kelly Risser knew at a young age what she wanted to be when she grew up. Unfortunately, Fairytale Princess was not a lucrative career. Leaving the castle and wand behind, she entered the world of creative business writing where she worked in advertising, marketing, and training at various companies. She's often found lamenting, It's hard to write when there's so many good books to read! So, when she's not immersed in the middle of someone else's fantasy world, she's busy creating one of her own. This world is introduced in her first novel, Never Forgotten. Kelly lives in Wisconsin with her husband and two children. They share their home with Clyde the Whoodle and a school of fish.

Provides Valuable Background to the Series

Sea of Memories is a novella collection providing background information for the Never Forgotten series by author Kelly Risser. Meara and her boyfriend Kieran have traveled from Scotland to Nova Scotia to visit her grandparents and will continue on to California to visit Kieran's family. As they have not known each other all that long, the trip serves as a way for them to know each other and their families on a deeper level.

A good portion of the novella is a recap of the previous books in the series, explaining changes in the clan and with Evan, Meara's ex boyfriend, as well as Deanna, Evan's present girlfriend. It becomes a trip of promises and romance ... for more than just Meara and Kieran. This book gives good background information, including backstories about Kieran's parents and how making the hard choices in life can bring heartache but sometimes love. The story of Meara's parents is also there, in the form of her mother's diary passed on to Meara by her grandmother. Sea of Memories helps to show the origins of many of the characters in the Never Forgotten series. It sheds some light on their motivations and the format was a great way to impart important information in a cohesive fashion. With past, present, and future love stories told, Sea of Memories ties together the generations represented in the entire series. I would recommend reading the other books first, as this one provides background that makes more sense if read in order.

Wonderful addition to the series!

Great compilation of back stories!

"Sea of Memories" by Kelly Risser is a novella comprised of back stories of various characters from the "Never Forgotten" series. You definitely want to read this book after you have read the other books in this series.

Because this is a collection of back stories, and not a complete novel, don't expect a lot of new material. A lot of what you see here centers around facts and events you already knew from the previous books. Kelly takes pieces of her previous novels and fleshes them out for us, filling in blanks in the story and going deeper into characters, who they are, and why they made the choices they did. Learn about Kieran's family, how Meara's parents met, and see how Meara's friends conspire to throw her a surprise Christmas party.

I can't say much more than that without spoiling the entire novella for you. Suffice to say, if you love the "Never Forgotten" series, you will appreciate the stories in this novella and how they enrich the entire series.

I cannot begin to express how excited I was when I learned that Kelly Risser had added another addition to her Never Forgotten series as I loved every single book. She has outdone herself!!!

Beautifully written, Sea of Memories gives you insight into the characters we've come to love and fills you in with in depth knowledge as we learn new things like the reason why Meara's father, David left right after she was born and we also discover new and startling revelations that will floor you.

The world building is extraordinary and beautifully detailed and the characters have continued to grow and evolve. I cried and I laughed and I even felt myself falling into a euphoric state as I envisioned myself being a part of this story line. This author is an extremely talented writer and the spell she weaves while writing these mystical tales leaves you completely enthralled.

This book is worthy of more than five stars and I highly recommend you read this book and other books written by Kelly Risser.

I was born in Cardiff and have retained a deep love for my Welsh roots. I worked as a nursery teacher in London and later taught Deaf children in Croydon and Hastings. I now live on the beautiful Isle of Wight with my husband, where I walk my cocker spaniel Pepper and write. I have two grown up children. 'Free to Be Tegan' was my debut novel. It is to be the first of a series of novels set in Wales. The second will be set on the spectacular Gower Peninsula. I have also published a short book of short stories 'Catching the Light'. Four very different but equally enjoyable short stories. A must read!

Having read Mary Grand’s first novel, ‘Free to be Tegan’ I was eager to read her latest collection of short stories, and they didn’t disappoint.

My favourite is the story of Megan, who is deaf. I found her decisions really interesting, and not what I would have expected. I learned a lot about deaf people and how they have their own community. Megan meets a hearing person and their worlds are so different.

The story of Rachel was another interesting one. I don’t own a dog, and have never wanted to either, but the friendships in this story made me want one. It’s not just about dogs though, Rachel has a secret… I won’t spoil it…

The story of Kay is another tale with a secret. It’s really clever how Mary Grand slowly reveals what has happened to Kay in the past.

In the story of Erin, the setting is beautifully described with a hint of magic…

All in all a thoroughly good read and I would highly recommend. All four stories are very different, and all equally enjoyable.

This is a short collection of four stories.

The first, The New Arrival, is a sweet story about a woman who is escaping her past developing a bond with a dog, Lottie, a Spaniel, after the dogs owner can't look after her. Based on the island, it was a good read.

Catching the light is a somewhat depressing story about a woman making a bad choice in her marriage. The addition of the supernatural did not really work for me.

Belonging was my favourite story, about a deaf girl who finds love. This story has the potential to be made into a longer, deeper story.

The Outing was interesting and had a clever twist in the end. Again, this has the potential to be extended into more.

Overall, a varied collection of four stories that were an enjoyable free read which I found on the top 100 Amazon free charts.

Well Written Short Stories

This is a collection of 4 short stories, all featuring women, who are disappointed in themselves, or their lives.

My favorite is THE NEW ARRIVAL. Rachel has moved to the Isle of Wight to get away from a bad experience. She’s hoping no one notices her and so far its worked. Until the day her neighbor knocks on her door looking for someone to take care of Lottie, the cocker spaniel. The dog’s owner is in the hospital and has no local family. Rachel’s not sure why she said yes, but having Lottie to take care of changes her whole life.

CATCHING THE LIGHT is a tale about Erin, who marries a man she really doesn’t know. But she finds out soon enough how abusive he is. There’s a touch of supernatural involved in changing her life.

BELONGING is the story of Megan who works in the Theater For The Deaf. She is Deaf and falls really hard for a hearing man, John. Their two worlds are so totally different and all she yearns for is someone to accept her the way she is.

Kay is on a mission in THE OUTING. She has suffered feelings of guilt for so many years and today that will all change …. Much more that she could ever have imagined.

All the stories are well written. The author did a good job with just the basics … but longer stories with the backstories fully detailed would make for good reading, as well.

I would definitely recommend this ebook for people who are just starting out ...

I would definitely recommend this ebook for people who are just starting out with the Paleo diet. The author introduces you to the Paleo diet which is very easy to read and informative. The segment on the "Do's and Don't's was very informative as well as the "Golden Rule", The How To Get Started Chapter really helped walking you through clearing out the non-paleo food and blessing others and what to actually stock your cupboards and fridge with. The author even touched base on how to wean yourself from your regular "comfort" foods. The reason that I only gave four stars is because the lack of recipes...I was truly hoping for a lot more than the four breakfast recipes since that is the area that I need the most help with. I really enjoyed making the Banana Bread On The Go - easy to make (skipped the coconut) and delicious! I also like the Roasted Sweet Potato wedges. There was a three day Paleo menu plan however it didn't consist of enough food or even calories for one adult on a typical day. It appeared to be more of a idea of the recipes that were provided in the ebook, I did receive this book for free in exchange for an honest review

They are chemicals that are trying to make you want more of the crap that you are eating

Let me just start by saying that if you are not on a Paleo diet, or at least eating clean, you are living your life in all the wrong ways. I decided that it was time in my life that I needed to start taking care of myself and that had to start with what I was putting in my body. Have you ever truly looked at the ingredients in what you are eating. Some of the things in there are literally not even food. They are chemicals that are trying to make you want more of the crap that you are eating. We wonder why so many people are struggling with huge issues like heart disease, cancer, and high cholesterol. Could it be that we are not eating real foods? Okay, after that little personal revelation I threw out all my junk and started to find natural foods to eat. It's very easy to go to the store and only buy real food. We know what isn't good for us. If it's boxed or canned or premade it's not the right stuff. Here is my issue though, we are so used to all this variety and used to cooking our favorite foods with all this processed crap, and even pintrest is lacking in the good paleo recipes category. I mean, you can only eat the same thing so many times before you just get sick of eating it. So, here I am looking through this little cookbook praying that by some miracle sent from heaven I might have a single new meal idea. Boy was I in for a treat! This thing is full of great ideas.Of course you are going to have to meal prep for most of them, but welcome to the world of beings a human being. Food is not supposed to be done in 30 seconds, I promise it really isn't. Anyway, I'd say if you are just a beginner on the diet, or really wanting some new ideas, get this bad boy on your kindle and you won't be sorry. Stick with this diet and you are going to start feeling a pep in your walk that you didn't know you could have, you will sleep well, your skin will be nice, you will have REAL energy and not just for an hour or two like you would get from caffeine, but all of the time. Not to mention, you are likely going to loose a crazy amount of weight even if you are not working out too. I love paleo!

Simple Paleo Diet recipes

Paleo Diet seems more like a life change then a diet. For instance in this book they emphanize on stocking up on protein sources, veggies, fruits. They do not cut out all fat. It is ok to eat bacon as it is part of an anti-inflammatory strategy. As I am reading thru the recipes they sound very simple and don’t seem off kilter. This is something I am interested in trying. I have never had banana chips but it sounds like a great snack. Slice thinly, the instructions say to coat with vinegar but the recipe calls for lemon so I am opting to use the lemon instead 

About the Author
Joey Paul is an indie author, exploring the young adult crime genre. She has released eight books in total so far, with a ninth due out in the summer of 2016. Her current works include the "Dying Thoughts" series, and she is planning to start writing the last book. She usually writes crime and mystery fiction, with a paranormal twist, but she has been known to dabble in contemporary romance and general fiction. She is writing her fifteenth and sixteenth books at the moment, having recently finished her last two. Joey is disabled and a recent graduate from The Open University with a BA (Hons) in Health & Social Care. When not reading medical textbooks, she enjoys reading crime novels, medical dramas and young adult novels. Wow, what a wonderfully written young adult crime story! And especially when a protagonist, Tara, possesses a special gift, allowing her to see the moments before the victim dies, which adds an amazing paranormal twist.
Most of all I appreciate strong characters in a book, and Tara, even though she’s only 16, is that strong character. After an untimely death of her mother and a close friend, she faces another challenge: find and save her best friend Kaolin, who was kidnapped. Tara handles the situation with an admirable strength, looking for clues despite her father’s protests and sometimes even going against the police detective Mike, who she’s working with.
It’s a fast-paced thriller, which kept me on the edge of my seat until I finished it. I couldn’t put it down, I just had to know what was going to happen next! I highly recommend this book to everyone, who loves a good quality mystery, detective and thriller genre, all in one. Beautiful job!

I'd recommend it!

A brilliant YA! Normally, I get tired of the whinging, but I've tried this one because of the glowing reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The girl is sarcastic and funny as hell, the plot is well paced - you want to know what's happening since chapter one, paragraph one! And it stays interesting all the way though.
What I don't particularly like is the layout - the occasional word that's highlighted like *that* and the use of bold, or cap... But it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book enough to knock a star, frankly, as it's more interesting than half of the books I generally read!
I guess the biggest weakness was the prominence of the dialog, some stuff would have been better narrated than said in long speeches, to make the world feel a bit more tri dimensional. That's why it's a four rather than a five, but it was pretty good, I'd recommend it to anyone who is after an interesting, well written and entertaining book.

Main character has an interesting "gift"

Without having read the first three in this series (I know, I'm a rebel), I found this story easy to follow and without the usual hurdles experienced when reading out of order. Our main character, Tara, has the gift of seeing a dead person's last moments when she touches something that belonged to them. This is a gift I'd not thought about before, and found the concept interesting. In this story, Tara's best friend goes missing and she finds herself investigating with and without the help of the local police to try and figure out what happened and find her alive, before her gift kicks in and shows her it's too late.

The way the author dances around this character's gift is impressive. The story moved a bit slower than I normally like, but then again it is geared toward young adults and it's been a long time since I was a young adult. Overall, I would recommend it.

EXCERPT:  I grab both his hands, hoping to pull him to his feet. "Come on. Please."

He stares at me so long I'm positive he's regretting that I'm here. "All right," he says. "But I choose the music. None of that hip hop stuff."

"Deal." 

Gunner stands, his knees bumping mine at first because I wasn't expecting his agreement. He towers above me, the top of my head barely reaching his chin. I take a step back. 

He pulls his cell phone from the pocket of his slacks. Wearing his dark slacks and white dress shirt, he looks like a different guy from the one who spent time working on the koi pond. Both looks are sexy and confident. 

My belly tingles while I look at him. "What kind of music do you have? I like all kinds--R & B, pop, alternate--"

"Kiley," he says without looking up from his phone. "Relax. I've got this."

Gunner moves his finger along his screen. How much music does this guy have? 

"I--"

"Shhh," he says, a grin tipping the corners of his mouth as he continues to scroll.

I'm going to combust from anticipation. Those science stories about people who automatically incinerate? I'm going to join them. Gunner will tell the police, "One minute we were going to dance, and then she went up in flames in the next. I have no idea why."

He presses the screen and places the phone on the arm of the chair. A slow country song begins. "This will do."

"Oh. It's slow."

"Yep." He steps forward and pulls my hands up so they rest on the back of his neck. "You do know how to slow dance, right? Or do I need to teach you?"

I swallow. "Of course, I do."


"Good. I didn't want to have to talk." His hands rest on my hips and there's only an inch between our bodies.

This book! Loved it!

There is one girl that Gunner remembers as the one that got away...as the one that broke his heart. Now he has come face to face with that very same girl and somehow got roped into staring in her daddy's popular dating show. Feelings will be had...money is at stake...and a show and its reputation will be jeopardized.

I absolutely loved this book. I started it without even knowing what it was about. That’s what you do when you love all of an author’s work. What can I say…that’s just how I roll. But seriously, this book was such a delight to read. It was fun in all the right spots, romantic when needed, and had me smiling throughout the entire read. I loved every single thing about it. Especially the characters. I now have a huge crush on Gunner. He is that perfect male: sweet without trying to be, a country boy, and sexy as hell.

Both Kiley and Gunner have a lot of issues that they will have to work through and overcome. It definitely isn't one of those things that have two people who once had feelings for each other reuniting and all is right in the world. Oh no. It isn't that cut and dry. But when is it ever?

A very cute aspect of the story was the dating show. I adored it. Of course, having loved The Bachelor in the past, I found it easy to fall into step with the storyline. The show plays a huge part in the book but doesn't hijack it. There are plenty of wonderful scenes throughout the story. It all meshed very well together, giving us a fabulous read.

I am smitten once again with Berry and her beautiful imagination and memorable characters. I will gladly read anything this author has to offer. Wonderful, intriguing and charming...THE FICTION OF FOREVER is absolutely reread worthy. And that doesn't happen very often with me. 5 Stars!

First off, I received this as an arc in exchange for my honest review.
Hot Hot Hot!!!!
Kiley the girl of his dreams, the one girl he has tons of pictures on his phone, the girl he has his heart set on to ask to the dance. Gunner out for the first time in a while, is at a party after a big game at the request of his mother, finds himself in the back seat of her SUV!
Kiley, a daughter of divorced parents, a rich father and a mother who has been married multiple times.
Gunner and his father leave their home, the home where his mother lived her life before she passes away from Breast Cancer, to a different start for his father's new online girlfriend.
Gunner gets a stepmother and stepsister, the stepmom he can live without, The stepsister, he does what he needs to protect her.
Gunner returns to his home town with his business and works for the father of the girl he has always wanted. One day of the job he see's her and wonders what he ever saw in her, she is the whiny, wants her way rich girl.
After a bad fight with her soon to be ex-fiance she has Gunner take her away...
Wow what a ride Gunner and Kiley have, A tv show where she is suppose to match him with the girl who would complete him, he know it will never happen cause he has his heart set on her without the wedding bells at the end.
This is an awesome read in my books. Looking forward to reading more books by Brinda Berry

The Fiction of Forever ( A Stand By Me Novel) Just like book one in this series, this book is unique and special. The Fiction of Forever is a second chance romance of sorts. It's what happens when the person that could have been your high school sweetheart disappears, the person you've had a crush on since middle school stays when life pulls you away.
Kiley is rich and beautiful, she's engaged and ready to start her life but as the wedding day approaches she can't help but feel that she's making a terrible mistake.
Gunner is hard working, stubborn, and afraid of love so when Kiley comes back in to the picture and he's forced into doing a reality show with her he'll do everything in his power to keep emotions out of it.
I couldn't put this book down. The chemistry between the characters in this book is great. Brinda Berry gives you depth to her characters, makes you feel their pain and their happiness. I can't wait to read more from this amazing author.
