Great Story!!

I just finished reading Shadow in Glass by J. Rose Alexander. I have read other works by J. Rose Alexander, written under the name Katherine Rhodes. First I have to compliment the author for being able to write in completely different styles. J. Rose Alexander writes differently than Katherine Rhodes....which I think is a true testament to this authors talent and creativity!
I have read many stories with similar plots, but this premise was a new one for me and worked wonderfully. What girl wouldn't want to pass out an ordinary working class girl and wake up a princess? I absolutely loved watching the story unfold, loved watching Carrie get acclimated to her new life and status, and absolutely loved watching her change the people's opinion of the existing princess.
The love story in the book was beautifully written. It was sweet and refreshing....I can totally see this as a TV movie on the Hallmark Channel. I loved both of the main characters, and loved the supporting characters. I truly rooted for everyone, and I hope the author writes another book featuring another character....I would gladly read it!! Another thing I loved about the story: her new "history" of the United States. Creative, believable, and written in a way that didn't make me "angry" we were no longer a democracy. Excellent job!
I gave this book 4 stars, but it is truly more of a 4.5 star book. There were a few minor issues I had which kept it from being 100% 5 stars....but it was really damn close! Some of my issues included a few plot holes that I felt a beta reader or editor should have caught. The location of the royal residence changed states, childhood memories were remembered, yet no explanation was given for how Carrie would have remembered the stories when, technically, she grew up in a different life/reality plain. While these little inconsistencies do not take away from the story at all, they definitely need to be addressed to make this truly 5 stars. One other little issue I had was how easily Carrie seemed to adapt to her new circumstances. There weren't as many faux pas that would be reasonable to expect when a commoner young lady wakes up a crown princess, especially when the original crown princess was totally unlike her and not the nicest person. Carrie definitely didn't stumble as much as she should have when she awoke as Barbara. The author missed opportunities for even more humorous or embarrassing moments by not fully vetting the acclamation process. Despite all of this, Me. Alexander still gives us an amazing read!!
Shadow in Glass is a solid 4.5 star book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It truly is a great story with likable characters, and a really interesting take on the time travel/ wake-up-in-someone-elses-life kind of story. So glad I purchased this book....I hope you will feel the same!

Fantasy Shadow in Glass is the story of Carrie Whitmore who is a journalist and caught in a building that experienced an explosion, her life takes a turn when she wakes up and realizes that she is a princess in another world and time.
Carrie learns that the person she was up until this point was not a pleasant person and that she is learning to become not only a good princess, but to become a Queen the nation can rely and believe in. She struggles thru the loss of loved ones as well as the gain of people that will help her become the woman she is destined to be. Maybe get the fairy tale princess ending every little girl dreams of.
Shadow in Glass was an interesting book to read, I enjoyed seeing how current events were implemented in the story. I really liked Carrie and how she worked on becoming a better person in the life that she woke up too, how she was able to adjust and accept that the life she was given is the reality instead of a dream.
I loved the interaction she had with her friends and especially the relationship she has with Jason, that after all her search she was able to love the man that would be good for her.

Very much a YA teenagers dream of becoming a princess. Through a mirror is cute and traditional. Carrie comes from her world during a disaster to another during the same disaster only to find she is a princess in a US that has a king. No stong highs or lows and lots of emotional upset on the teenage level that is odd for a woman in her twenties. Typical fairytale ending. Just a nice little romance. Does spend far too much time at college.
