A Familiar Face is a new collection of shorts: weird ones, funny ones, sweet ones, sad ones.
Scotty Weeks has been compared to Neil Gaiman, Paul Auster, and Michael Chabon. He writes tightly plotted stories with a strong sense of place, whether they have elements of the fantastical like "Norman" where a man discovers that he has an alcoholic gnome for a roommate, or the dramatic like "Hinchinbrook" about a fishing death in small town Alaska.
Other titles include:
- "A Familiar Face" an unsettling story of being caught in an apartment that you can't leave
- "Exit Zero" a pulpy romp through 1990s Seattle, complete with urban blacksmiths and a dismembered hand
- "Jazz Eels" about, well, eels—but it's short and you'll giggle all the way through it

Much different than I was originally expecting
By Lucidity
Honestly, these are the kind of stories that I don’t usually find myself reading – and, in fact, I suppose I often would tend to avoid them. That being said, I couldn’t help but admire the author’s writing style and the pure ingenuity of the plots that he has structured within these stories (some better than others, of course, my favorite being ‘Jazz Eels’).
The allure here for me personally lies in that I found the book to not only be well-written but also refreshingly new and so I highly recommend this book for anyone hoping to come across an author that isn’t afraid to think outside of the box and try something new which, in turn, offers readers originality essentially from start to finish.

I wasn't sure what to expect but I really enjoyed it. Its just the right amount of psychological surrealism that I appreciate. Never quite know what is real and what isn't in each story. The pace and length of each story also made it easy to digest a story here and there whenever I had a little free time. A few stories on a flight, couple in the park, a drink on the balcony and you're set.

Do yourself a favour and get this book
By ian rogers
Magic realism in contemporary settings, clever and entertaining, this collection has a little bit of something for everyone. Well, everyone except people that like books that aren't very good. They will be disappointed.
